Following the announcement by the chairman returning officer, Independent National Electoral Commission, Secretariat,Ibadan,Oyo State, the vice chancellor, Federal University of Technology,Akure,Prof. Olusola Kehinde on Saturday 18th March,2023 to the newsmen that formal announcement would commence on Sunday 19th March,2023 from 9 in the morning, announcement of 18 LGs Gubernatorial Elections have revealed that the incumbent governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party,PDP has led his opponent, a-3rd term serving senator in the country,Teslim Folarin whi contested on the platform of the All Progressives’ Congress,APC in the State.
The 18th local government results announced indicated that of the three major political parties which include Accord Party(Adelabu Penkelemesi); APC ( Teslim Folarin) and PDP (Seyi Makinde), PDP has cleared 17 of the local government areas declared so far ,ACCORD (21,899), APC (128,871) and PDP (271,522).
The Local Government Councils results announced so far include Ona-Ara, Ibadan North West, Ibarapa East, Afijio, Atiba, Ibadan South East East, Ogbomosho South, Ibadan North East, Olorunsogo, Ogo-Oluwa, Itesiwaju, Surulere, Saki-East, Atisbo, Oluyole, Ibadan SouthWest, Oriire with only a winning at Irepo by Teslim with 9,785 against 7,193.
Analysts at the collation centre attributed such a landslide margin to government of popularity Makinde centres his administration on randing from prompt payment of staff salary and pensions, and infrastructural development recently embarked while others believe Teslim Folarin should retrace his step before the next Elections in 2027.
