The people of Edo State resident in Abuja have bought an Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for governor Godwin Obaseki from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The group which made up of mostly youth, said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are not credible platform for the governor adding that they want him to contest in ADC.
Speaking during the purchasing of the forms at the party Secretariat on Wednesday in Abuja, Edo Youths spokesman, Albert Evbuomwuan ,said “Edolites resident in Abuja have taken it upon themselves to choose a most credible platform for their Governor towards the coming election.
“To this effect; they have decided to purchase the expression of interest/nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the embattled governor of their state.”
The expression of Interest and Nomination forms of the ADC cost the group N12 million, the party said.
Ikem Anthony Kalzeeni, Political Consultant to ADC National Chairman, said, “We see ADC as a party that can lead Edo State and give the people the real change they have been yearning for decades.”
According to Kalzeeni, ADC is a credible party that will protect the interest of the Edo people.
Smith Osazele, from Esan East, said they are here to support Obaseki. What they need is a governor hat will lead the state to progress. They gathered and bought a form for him. They want him in ADC. That they the Edo youth say no to godfatherism.
Mr Nzekwesi Samuel Emeka. PA to ADC National Chairman, said that the Covid-19 pandemic has exposed the weakness in leadership across board in the country noting that governance in Edo state and other state has derailed.
He commended the people of Edo State for purchasing the ADC governorship form saying that the party stands as a credible alternative for Obaseki to achieve his second term ambition.
ADC State Chairman, FCT, Hon. Ndukwa Lawrence, said that the Edo youth have taken a very bold steps to rescue Edo state.
He recalled that during the 2016 campaign, Oshiomhole told the people that ‘Godwin Obaseki is a good man and because of his name, he will win.’
According to him, the youth are at liberty to choose the person they feel is the best to rule them. “In ADC we leave the right to choose the leader in the hands of the people. If he (Governor Obaseki) contest in ADC he will win and do better than PDP or APC.
He accused both the ruling party and the major opposition party of the imposition of candidates, adding, “God will make it possible for Obaseki to win, we will support you.”
