Residents of Akanran, Olorunsogo, Ogbere and Tioya in OnaAra Local Government, Area of Oyo State have expressed their lamentation over the collapse of Ogbere-Tioya Stream bridge that allegedly triggers hardship, pickpockets’ access to people’s phones and other inconveniences.
Their lamentation was acknowledged in a viral video where the residents and other visitors were managing to pass on the bridge as a result of its collapse, owing to construction of ongoing Olorunsogo-Akanran road.
Naijatodaynew.com learnt that the collapsed bridge has been causing hardship to people living around the area and those whose businesses are situated there.
In an interaction with a resident, named Akeem Ajibade, immediately after the video surfaced on social media, he lamented that they have been experiencing hardship which is in connection with crippling of economy and other businesses that are located in the area.
He added that the work would have gone faster and better, but he discovered that the contractor handling the project is neither competent nor proficient.
Aside, Ajibade said that the bridge had caused furore while people become congested in an attempt to pass through the place.
Another resident, Michael Ademola lamented that collapse of bridge had given the pickpockets an access to stealing of phones while pedestrians are trying to pass, stressing that almost 5-10 phones lose daily while there are congestions of pedestrians making attempt to have their ways.
Ademola, in his furtherance said, schools across Oyo State had resumed, while students would need to pass through the bridge before getting to their respective schools, adding that the students can’t pass alone and would be equally delayed before getting to the schools.
He however said that, despite the hardship they were passing through as a result of the collapsed road, Oyo State Government is also making efforts to collapse another bride at Ariyo axis of OnaAra LG.
Ademola reiterated that they could no longer bear the sufferings and continuous hardship that are associated with the collapse of the bridge.
Abiola David in his reaction said, people of the area are not satisfying with the way and manner the project is being handled.
David’s comment and response not in tandem with earlier pronouncement of Governor Seyi Makinde which centred on satisfaction attained on ongoing road.
He added that, had it been Makinde come at an appropriate time while people were so congested on the bridge and personally acknowledged the level of hardship and inconveniences, he wouldn’t have made such pronouncement.
David described the project contractor as an incompetent and unprofessional engineer whose work and efforts had caused more damages than good on the road.
He however called on Governor Seyi Makinde to come on their rescue as the road’s deterioration needs to be fixed in order to prevent further cripple of their businesses and other inconveniences associated with the road.
