Seven gangs of suspected armed robbers were said to have attacked the bullion van carrying money, while 3 policemen and a commercial motorcyclist died at a spot at Idi-Ape, Iwo Road Area,Ibadan, Oyo State while duo were firing bullets at each other.
The sad development was said to have happened at Idi Ape in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State on Thursday, February 10, while the bullion van led by the team of policemen was attacked by the gangs of the suspected armed robbers.
According to an eye witness who spoke under the condition of anonymity disclosed that the incident happened around 1:30pm while the bullion van coming from Iwo road was attacked by the suspected armed robbers.
He said that the commercial motorcyclist was killed by the suspected armed robbers while he was in a hurry to overtake them while they were planning to attack the bullion van.
An eye witness maintained that the alleged armed robbers came with Sienna bus with effrontery to overtake the bullion van and started open fire at the team of policemen.
He said that it was a pity that 3 policemen and a commercial motorcyclist were killed, 5 other police men were wounded, and a kid was hit by the stray bullet.
An eye witness said that the armed robbers went away with unknown huge amount of money, while both dead and wounded policemen were taken to University Teaching Hospital, UCH Ibadan.
The scene of sad development was not far to Testing Ground Police Station and effort to get in touch with Testing Ground DPO proved abortive.
