The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State is grappling with internal tensions following the emergence of a purported list of “consensus” candidates for various electoral positions in the state. The list, allegedly compiled by party leaders, features Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the gubernatorial candidate, with Mr Soji Adedeji, brother of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Chairman, Dr Zacchaeus Adedeji, as his deputy.
Other notable names on the list include Hon. Aderemi Oseni for Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator Yunus Akintunde for Oyo Central Senatorial District, and Mrs Hannah Ogunesan, a former Head of Service under Governor Abiola Ajimobi, for Oyo North Senatorial District.
For the House of Representatives, the list allegedly features Faruk Arisekola for Ibadan North, Funke Adesiyan for Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East, Idris Ajimobi, son of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, for Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West, and Akin Akinjide for Egbeda/Ona-Ara, among others.
However, multiple aspirants who spoke on condition of anonymity expressed discontent with the list, citing it as a source of tension within the party. APC Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare dismissed the list as “fake” and announced an investigation to identify those behind its circulation.
“The leadership of our great party has launched an investigation into the brains behind the circulation of a fresh list of purported Oyo APC candidates…the list is not only fake but also deceptive and provocative,” Sadare stated.
The party maintains that it has not yet released any official list of candidates, as the process of expression of interest, nomination, and party primaries has not commenced.
The APC urges members and supporters to disregard the list, assuring that an official announcement will be made in due time.
