The All Progressives Congress (APC) is gearing up for the 2027 governorship elections in Oyo State, with prominent stakeholders considering Representative Aderemi Abas Oseni and Senator Sharafadeen Alli as frontrunners for the party’s ticket. According to sources, the party’s stakeholders meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos has paved the way for a consensus arrangement, favoring Oseni and Alli as top contenders.
The meeting, which included Vice President Kashim Shettima and 23 governors, aimed to chart a strategic course for the party’s success in the upcoming elections. With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduling the Presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, and governorship elections for February 6, 2027, the APC is under pressure to present a strong candidate.
Representative Aderemi Abas emi Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, has been praised for his grassroots mobilization efforts and commitment to the party’s Renewed Hope Agenda. His leadership in launching the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF) has energized APC supporters, particularly in rural areas.
Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, is also a strong contender, leveraging his experience and influence in the party. The APC traditionally favors consensus arrangements, highlighting popular candidates with a proven track record of winning elections.
President Tinubu’s recent visit to the UK and subsequent meetings in Lagos underscore the party’s focus on strategic planning for the 2027 elections. As the APC navigates this critical period, unity and consensus among stakeholders will be crucial in securing victory.
