President Tinubu, Wife Embark on Historic UK State Visit

President Bola Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will depart Abuja tomorrow for a State Visit to the United Kingdom as guests of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

According to a post by Dada Olusegun, Social media aide to the President, on his official X handle on Monday, March 16, “King Charles will host President Tinubu and his wife at Windsor Castle from Wednesday, March 18, to Thursday, March 19.”

During the visit, “President Tinubu is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street.”

The statement further read that “the meeting, is aimed at fostering expanded bilateral engagement between senior officials of the two countries.”

It also noted that this development would culminate in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements. These agreements are expected to cover areas including “trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation.”

While at Windsor Castle, it was further stated that the RoyalFamily will invite the President and the First Lady “to view a special exhibition of items from the Royal Collection related to Nigeria.”

“This will be followed by private discussions between King Charles and President Tinubu, as well as meetings with organisations engaged in interfaith dialogue both nationally and internationally.”

The State Visit would also feature a State Banquet hosted by the Royal Family in honour of the Nigerian guests.

This ceremonial event underscores the importance of the visit and highlights the deepening ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Previously, this newspaper reported that security agencies in the UK issued a stern warning ahead of the state visit of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, emphasising that anyone breaching airspace restrictions around Windsor will face criminal prosecution.

Thames Valley Police on its website noted that in collaboration with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM), the Royal Household, and other partners, it is implementing extensive measures to protect the visiting president, dignitaries, and the public.

In February, Buckingham Palace was reported as revealing that King Charles III and Queen Camilla will host Nigeria’s president, Tinubu, in the country’s first state visit to the UK in 37 years.

The President,Tinubu, and his wife the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu accepted an invitation to be guests of the King at Windsor Castle from 18 to 19 March.
