Oyo State’s Agribusiness sector is undergoing a remarkable transformation, driven by the strategic leadership of Dr. Debo Akande, Executive Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Agribusiness and International Cooperation & Development. The sector’s growth has significantly contributed to the state’s improved Value Added Tax (VAT) performance and overall economic expansion.
Under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, Agribusiness has been deliberately prioritized as a major driver of economic prosperity. Initiatives such as the Oluyole Free Trade Zone and the development of Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) have opened new frontiers for investment, job creation, and agricultural productivity. The agro-industrial hubs at Fasola, Eruwa, and Ijaiye in Atan Village, Akinyele Local Government, are testament to the transformative power of this vision, attracting investors, strengthening value chains, and positioning the state as a center of agro-processing and food security.
The synergy between OYSADA’s leadership and Governor Makinde’s policy direction is gradually transforming Oyo State into a model of Agribusiness-driven development. Improved road networks, better rural infrastructure, and a supportive policy environment have made it easier for farmers and produce merchants to transport food items to markets without the usual stress associated with poor logistics and bad roads.
“The real economic expansion lies in empowering farmers and Agribusiness stakeholders. By doing so, we are creating sustainable opportunities for citizens across the state, strengthening internally generated revenue, and securing a brighter future for Oyo State,” says a top official.
As Oyo State continues to soar higher on VAT performance, stakeholders are optimistic that the Agribusiness revolution spearheaded by Dr. Debo Akande will continue to drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for citizens.
