The lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has disbursed grants worth N100m to 820 constituents to support small and micro-scale businesses across the constituency.

Oseni, who also chairs the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said the initiative was aimed at strengthening local enterprises and improving the economic well-being of beneficiaries.

Under the scheme, 20 beneficiaries received N1m each, 400 beneficiaries were given N100,000 each, while another 400 received N50,000 each, among others to support their respective businesses.

Speaking on Monday during the symbolic presentation of the grants at the constituency office in Ologuneru, Ibadan, Oseni, who was represented by his Senior Legislative Aide (SLA), Alhaji Hakeem Okedina, said the initiative formed part of the lawmaker’s commitment to empowering constituents and promoting grassroots economic development.

Okedina said Oseni believed that supporting small businesses remained one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty, stimulate economic activities and create sustainable livelihoods.

He said, “Hon. Oseni is deeply committed to the welfare and economic empowerment of the people of Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency. This is not the first time he is supporting artisans, traders and farmers in the constituency.

“This intervention is designed to provide much-needed support to traders, artisans and other small-scale entrepreneurs who form the backbone of our local economy.

“The aim is to ensure that beneficiaries expand their businesses, create more opportunities and improve their standard of living. Our principal remains focused on initiatives that directly impact the lives of the people.”

He urged the beneficiaries to utilise the grants judiciously and ensure that the funds were invested in their businesses to achieve the intended objectives.

The lawmaker’s side added that the empowerment programme reflected Oseni’s broader agenda of inclusive development and sustainable economic support for constituents.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, a trader, Mrs Ebo Comfort, expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for the gesture, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.

According to her, the grant will help many small business owners restock their goods and expand their operations.

“We are very grateful to Hon. Oseni for remembering us at this difficult economic time. Many traders are struggling to get support or obtain loans to keep their businesses afloat, but this support will go a long way in helping us stabilise and grow our businesses,” she said.

She also pledged that the beneficiaries would make good use of the opportunity to improve their livelihoods.
