As Nigeria celebrates its 26th Democracy Day, Dr. Temitope Oladimeji, Director-General of Oyo State Liaison Office for Abuja & Lagos, has urged Nigerians to nurture and defend democracy. According to him, democracy is not handed down, but earned, nurtured, and defended.

In his Democracy Day message, Dr. Oladimeji honored the memory of brave men and women who stood firm in the face of oppression, including Chief MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. He noted that their courage and sacrifice remain a guiding light for generations to come.

Dr. Oladimeji emphasized that democracy thrives when citizens participate and that every voice matters. He urged Nigerians to work together to build a nation where every vote counts, leadership is born from the will of the people, and truth, justice, and freedom are guaranteed for every citizen.

To achieve this, he advocated for equity, transparency, and accountability at all levels. Political parties, he said, must entrench internal democracy, allowing every member a voice and a choice. Leadership should not be imposed but earned through integrity and service.

Dr. Oladimeji’s message is a call to action for all Nigerians to rise with renewed hope and unshaken faith to build the nation their heroes dreamed of. He urged citizens to participate in the democratic process and demand accountability and transparency from their leaders.

As Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day, Dr. Oladimeji prayed that it would reignite Nigerians’ passion for a freer, fairer, and more united country. He wished all Nigerians a happy Democracy Day and prayed that God would bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
