The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has advised the Osun State Government to suspend the planned Local Government elections, citing credible intelligence of potential violence and security threats. However, Davido, a popular Nigerian artist and nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has responded to the advice, stating that the state will seek alternative security from the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun, if the Nigeria Police fails to provide necessary security.
The NPF’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement warning of potential unrest and violence, posing a serious risk to public safety. The police urged political stakeholders to exercise restraint and prioritize public safety during this period.

Davido reacted to the development in a tweet, retweeting the NPF statement and writing, “We go use Amotekun.” This response suggests that the state is prepared to explore alternative security arrangements to ensure the safety of citizens during the elections.
The Federal Government has also weighed in on the matter, with the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, advising Governor Ademola Adeleke to suspend the elections, citing a court judgment that reinstated the APC chairmen in the state. However, Davido’s response indicates that the state is determined to proceed with the elections, using Amotekun to provide security if necessary.
