A chieftain of the Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF), Anabs Sara-Igbe, has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to reconcile with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, warning that the continued political rivalry could lead to disastrous consequences.
Sara-Igbe made the statement in response to Wike’s assertion during a live media chat in Abuja on Sunday that he would never reconcile with Fubara. In a press release on Monday, Sara-Igbe emphasized that Wike’s political troubles are mounting, making it evident that he cannot win the ongoing battle with Fubara.
He likened Wike to a masquerade undressed in public, suggesting that the Minister is rapidly losing his political influence in Rivers State. Sara-Igbe urged Wike to seize the opportunity offered by the Obong Victor Attah-led PANDEF Reconciliation Committee to end the political conflict.
“Wike’s refusal to reconcile with Governor Fubara is incomprehensible,” Sara-Igbe said. “Everything is collapsing on his head. He is losing ground daily, and it’s clear that Wike cannot win this war.”
Sara-Igbe emphasized that Wike’s attempts to continue the feud are futile, especially since Governor Fubara remains open to peace. He warned that Wike’s persistence in the fight could lead to a disastrous and humiliating end.
“PANDEF, under Obong Attah, has provided him with an opportunity to reconcile with dignity,” Sara-Igbe said. “He should embrace that chance and seek peace with Fubara.”
Sara-Igbe concluded that regardless of Wike’s decision, Rivers State has moved forward, and Governor Fubara is doing well. He emphasized that Wike is not indispensable and that the state is at peace without his influence.
The feud between Wike and Fubara has been ongoing, with both sides refusing to back down. The PANDEF Reconciliation Committee’s efforts to broker peace between the two leaders have so far been unsuccessful. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether Wike will heed Sara-Igbe’s warning and seek reconciliation with Fubara.
