The Egbeda Local Government Screening Committee has categorically denied a false news report published by an Online News Medium on January 6, 2025, claiming that nominated Supervisory Councillors and Special Assistants were found unsuitable for appointment.
In a swift response to the malicious publication, Hon. Olaoye Adijat, Secretary of the Egbeda LG Screening Committee, described the report as “entirely false and misleading.” According to Hon. Adijat, the committee’s findings were grossly misrepresented by the online news platform, causing unnecessary tension and confusion among party members and stakeholders.
“We are compelled to set the record straight and reassure the public that our committee conducted a thorough and transparent screening process,” Hon. Adijat emphasized. “The nominees were assessed based on their credentials, qualifications, and suitability for the respective roles. We did not receive any complaints or objections from party leaders or members challenging the nominees.”
The Egbeda LG Screening Committee, chaired by Hon. Abdullahi Alaba, with Hon. Rafiu Ibrahim as a member, ensured that all nominees met the required standards and criteria. “We verified the credentials of all nominees, and they were all found to be satisfactory,” Hon. Adijat explained. “Furthermore, all nominees paid the required fees of #100,000 for Supervisory Councillors and #50,000 for Special Assistants, respectively.”
Hon. Adijat reiterated that the screening committee’s report would be presented to the Speaker of the Egbeda LG legislative arm, Hon. Olakanmi Olusola, who would then present it to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, for final ratification. “Once the report is ratified, all cleared nominees will be sworn in as Supervisory Councillors and Special Assistants,” Hon. Adijat concluded.
The Egbeda LG Screening Committee has urged the public to disregard the false news report, which is capable of causing division and misinformation among party members and stakeholders. “We appeal to the public to rely on credible sources of information and to verify facts before sharing or reacting to news reports,” Hon. Adijat advised.
In a related development, the Egbeda LG chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has distanced itself from the false news report, describing it as “mischievous and malicious.” The party has urged its members to remain calm and focused, assuring them that the screening committee’s report would be made public in due course.
As the controversy surrounding the false news report continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the Egbeda LG Screening Committee has done its due diligence in ensuring that all nominees meet the required standards and criteria. The public is advised to wait for the official report from the committee rather than relying on unsubstantiated and misleading news reports.
