Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has announced that his administration has allocated N41 billion for the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Alakia, Ibadan, to international airport status. This declaration was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for the airport’s upgrade in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Governor Makinde revealed that his administration has been committed to upgrading the airport since 2019, with a clear vision to transform Ibadan into a regional business hub in the southwest zone. The project is expected to be completed within 12 months, further solidifying Ibadan’s position as a key economic center in the region.
This development is in line with Governor Makinde’s efforts to boost the state’s economy, as evident in his administration’s Roadmap for Accelerated Development, which focuses on four pillars: Education, Healthcare, Security, and Agribusiness. The governor has also been working to increase the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which has grown by over 90% between 2019 and 2022.
The upgrade of the airport is expected to have a positive impact on the state’s economy, creating new business opportunities and jobs for residents.
