The full speech is as follows:
“Distinguished colleagues and our esteemed guests, everything seems like yesterday when both the new and reelected members of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly gathered in this hallow chamber with a pledge to strive for excellence, good governance, and socioeconomic upliftment of our state through enactment of people-oriented laws and passage of resolutions and motions among other constitutionally assigned responsibilities.
It is worthy of note that since then, we have not only worked tirelessly to review and pass important legislations, debated critical issues, and represented our constituents with dedication and pride, we have also remained united and cohesive under the “Omituntun 2.0 agenda” of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.
I want to use this medium to commend my fellow legislators for their high level of commitment and patriotism to the welfare of the good people of Oyo State, coupled with our strong collaboration with the Executive Arm of Government in its quest to transform and reengineer the state.
It has no doubt been 12 months of steady progress. First, the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly enacted Laws that aided the implementation of the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAFER Programme) Agenda of the present administration, and the Program is already in course.
It gladdens my heart to state that this Assembly within one year had been able to pass Sixteen (16) Bills in Law while four (4) others are presently at various stages of Legislative processes. Nine (9) out of those bills had been assented to by His Excellency.
I am pleased to also announce that Sixty-eight (68) motions had been sponsored and moved by us, and the committee had presented thirty-five (35) reports to oversight functions and matters referred to the Committee at the Plenary Sitting of the House. So far, the House has passed One Hundred and Seventy (170) resolutions to the Executive Arm of Government and others for appropriate actions.
Let me state unequivocally that these outstanding records and achievements would not have been possible if not for the unwavering support, collaboration, and commitment of my dear colleagues. This commitment no doubt is in tandem with my acceptance speech during our inauguration where I promised that the 10th Assembly would work vehemently to surpass the achievement of the 9th Assembly.
From available records, the achievement of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly in its first year has surpassed the achievement of the first legislative session of the 9th Assembly. Moving forward, dear colleagues, I think we can do more with all sincerity of purpose and determination to lead the legislative business amongst State Legislatures in Nigeria.
I would like to assure you that the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly is poised for greater services to the people of Oyo State in the remaining three years. As legislators, we shall not rest in our oars in ensuring that the dividends of democracy are delivered to the people of our dear Pace Setter State.
