A source within the Atiku caucus of the PDP has revealed ongoing plans to return Atiku as the flag bearer of the party for the 2027 presidency.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, from all indication gathered within his camp is joggling up for the position of Nigeria’s president in 2027.
Atiku disclosed this on Wednesday through Daniel Bwala, spokesperson for the Presidential Campaign Organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.
Bwala declared that despite previous unsuccessful attempts at Nigeria’s top job, Atiku would “surely contest” again for presidency in the subsequent general elections.
“Sure, he [Atiku] would run,” Bwala told ChannelsTV.
“He has the capacity, he has the wisdom, he has the knowledge, he has the energy. And he is a president we never had. Because to be honest with you, if any politician understands the private sector very well, it is Atiku Abubakar and our economy can only come alive if there is a private sector-led economy.”
Atiku Abubakar has contested unsuccessfully for President of Nigeria six times, in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023.
Political analysts and enthusiasts have put the blame on current crisis within the PDP on Atiku’s presidential ambition.
While many quarters believed that Atiku’s consistent interest on the seat of Nigeria presidency may be weighted from different perspective many of which is hinged on his experiences of the aura and prestige of Aso rock, others believed He seems to have a card he’s playing to remain relevant politically.
