The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC ,Oyo State has presented certificate of Return to the 2nd Term Governor of Oyo State and 32 Honourable-Elect in the State.
The Presentation of the certificates which took place at the International Conference Centre,Olusegun Agangan Hall, University Of Ibadan, Ibadan on Wednesday, under a world class security presence drew the State Governor and 32 returning and newly elected state lawmakers for the first time since conclusion of the March 18 Gubernatorial and State House of Elections.
In a welcome address, Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Oyo State, Dr Tella Adeniran said the exercise came to life in relation to section 72 Sub-section 1 of the 2022 Electoral Act which spells -out that need for the issuance of certificate of return to every candidate that won in the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly.
Dr Tella credited the state voters who partook and had confidence in the Bimordial Voters Accreditation System, BVAS which enabled a successful election in the entire country especially in Oyo State.
Similarly, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Commissioner in charge of Oyo, Ekiti and Lagos, Mr Sam Olumekun while delivering a keynote address said Oyo spoke spoke credibly well , noting that the success of the 2023 Election began from after the 2019 General Elections not minding the ups and downs in the country.
” Oyo people spoke and spoke very, very loudly with a historic votes of 566,766, a huge margin in the history of the State’s Election”, he said.
Olumekun stressed that INEC has fulfilled its function for the year in tandem with section 72 subsection 1 which stipulates that winning candidates should be issued certificates of return within the 14 days of Elections conduct, added that the Commission will remained guided by it extant laws.
In a brief remark, Gov. Seyi Makinde after receiving certificates of return by himself, deputy governor-elect,Barr. Adebayo Lawal, State Honourable-Elects including Mohammed Fadeyi, Olasunkanmi Babalola, Yusuf Adebisi, Akintunde Olajide, Gbenga Adekola, and others ,Makinde stated that 2nd Term for every el ected in the State will be towards increased efforts at moving the State from poverty to prosperity.
Meanwhile,INEC commissioner has directed Ibarapa East State Constituency and Speaker of the outgoing 9th Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin and Ogbomosho North Honourable Elect who were unavoidably absent to pick their Certificates of return at its office.
