Oyo state governor,Seyi Makinde said his administration will provide a temporary accommodation for victims of Ajia structures’ demolition pending verification of their property be concluded.
Makinde gave the assurance on Wednesday evening as Ajia residents flooded the frontage of the governor’s office,Secretariat, Ibadan calling for the state government’s rescue and justice.
The residents with different placards appealed for government’s mercy at them ,while other rolled in tears.
Two of the victims, Mr James Femi and Mrs Oluwatosin Akintunde who spoke with naijatodaynews correspondent tearfully narrated how the demolition will make them homeless for the rest of their lives, unless the government rescue the situation. The victims stressed that their destroyed properties had government documents as backup, thus call for Justice.
” Really, the notice on our likely evacuation came on February 2021, but nothing serious came until today when soldiers flooded the area with bulldozer officials
” We have presented all required documents on the destroyed property, only that we want the government to extend mercies”, James Femi said
” It is really saddening that all destroyed property, almost possessed documents
” My land, take for instance, has a Land survey in its red copy, and …” ,Mrs Oluwatosin Akintunde lamented
Meanwhile, Makinde called all concerned victims to remain calm and peaceful; present their property documents for evaluation and verification by his deploying verification team today temporarily at a yet to be designated place in the area, with the assurance that he will provide compensations when worth it and as well provide temporary accommodations to the affected residents.
” All I will say is that none of you will be cheated. Get all documents ready as I can say to you that tomorrow morning a verification team will visit your site for an exercise
” Remember, I have a property built there in honour of my late father, so I am still part of you.
” To facilitate this, the verifier will use part of the building so as to ease your access
“Be orderly, present yourself there as from tomorrow, they will attend to you.
” My assurance is that those whose houses were legally destroyed will be housed temporarily myself
“I will commit my personal money for the housing of the legally affected victims while we await true verification “, Makinde concluded.
Recall,the commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr Oluwasegun Olayiwola has said last Wednesday at a press briefing that the state government will commence demolition of all illegal structures marked up by its ministry,with readied compensations to victims with viable documents on them , with earlier evacuation notice to them, some of the areas which include Ajia- Airport Area which will house shortly an ICT polytechnic, an Air force Institution to mention but few.
