Christians in Oyo Central Senatorial District and Oyo State have been urged to be sober and circumspect as they celebrate 2021 Christmas, which is the birthday of Jesus Christ.
Senator Teslim Folarin made the call through a goodwill message he personally signed and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Local Content while admonishing Christian faithfuls to continually imbibe the full essence of Christmas, charged them to supplicate for the peace and unity of Nigeria. He urged all Christians to exemplify the teachings of Jesus Christ which are deep-rooted in peace for mankind, especially at this critical time of nation building.
The three-term Senator reawaken the consciousness of Nigerians of the reality of new variants of COVID-19. He lamented extremely low COVID-19 vaccination rate in Nigeria.
According to Folarin, “Nigeria has the third highest number of COVID-19 cases in Africa after South Africa and Ethiopia. The country is also experiencing third wave of the deadly virus. Hence, the need for increase in vaccination rate”.
“Of 110 million adult population Nigerian government aims to vaccinate, over the next two years, just about 3 million citizens have had at least one shot. This means we have a long way to go if the country must fight against COVID-19 to a standstill”.
“Heaven helps those who help themselves! On this note, I candidly urge fellow Nigerians to help themselves by presenting themselves for COVID-19 vaccination. Every Nigerian must get immunized in order for the country to get back to normalcy” he stressed.
