Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, Soun of Ogbomoso, who died on Sunday at 95, was a great influence in the lives of many people, especially businessmen.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ilaji Resort and Games Village, Akanran Ibadan, Engr. Dotun Sanusi, who made this known in a condolence message to the royal family, said some of the trailblazing efforts of departed monarch, among other things, influenced him to venture into business.
According to Sanusi, who is the Otun Apesinola of Ibadan, “We are sad by Kabiyesi’s departure. That notwithstanding, we are happy with his numerous achievements as a businessman and later as a foremost monarch. No doubt, God preserved Oba Jimoh Oyewumi for 95 years and 48 years on the throne and it was fully to the benefit of mankind and Ogbomosoland.
”From tender age, we heard about him. This was someone who was doing well in Plateau state before he was called to come become King. He wasn’t someone who came to use the throne for personal things. He spent personal money to fix some things. Till he breath his last, he concerned himself with the development of Ogbomosoland. These are things that can be emulated by people. His trailblazing efforts ensured that joblessness is reduced in Ogbomoso and it’s environs. This was one of my motivation for establishing businesses in Ibadan, my hometown. Our businesses have created thousands of jobs. And in the coming years, we will do more.
“Oba Oyewumi was without controversy and whenever he intervened in any issue, it was always deep. I want to on behalf of the management and staff of Ilaji Resort and Games Village condole with the family and people of Ogbomoso over the demise of their monarch. Our hearts are with them in this mourning period.”
