A group championing political stability in the country, Political Awareness Group (PAG) has advised the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko to beef up security around the deputy Governor in the State, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan.
The group gave this advice following a Save my Soul petition filed by Olaniyan a few days ago.
Our correspondent gathered that the deputy Governor had last week written a petition to the state police command, alleging threat to his life.
It was also gathered that some hoodlums had last week vandalised a petroleum station and a bakery belonging to the wife of the deputy Governor, Professor Hamdalat Olaniyan in Ibadan.
This made the deputy Governor to raise the alarm and he reported the incidents to the commissioner of Police.
But, PAG in its reaction, called on the police to beef up security around the second citizen of the State.
PAG Chairman, Barrister Abdulwaheed Olowonjaye in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, said the commissioner of police in the state should not treat the case of the threat to life of the Deputy Governor with levity.
Olowonjaye advised the CP to put in place machineries to ensure the safety of the Deputy Governor.
He maintained that this would vindicate the police of any ulterior motive.
Olowonjaye while speaking further condemned the attack and destruction of property of the wife of the Deputy Governor, Professor Amdalat Olaniyan.
He then called for thorough investigation to bring the culprits to book.
He spoke further by describing as unwarranted the purported move to impeach the Deputy Governor.
He lauded members of the House of Assembly for coming out to deny the planned impeachment, warning them not to be used as agents to destabilize the State.
He said, “Following save my soul petition filed by Oyo State Deputy Governor, Engr Rauf Olaniyan, Political Awareness Group, PAG has called on the police to beef up security around the second citizen of the State.
“The commissioner of police in the state should not treat the case of the threat to life of the Deputy Governor with levity and put in place machineries to ensure safety of the man noting that this would vindicate the police of any ulterior motive.
“PAG condemned the attack and destruction by some hoodlums on the property of the wife of the Deputy Governor, Professor Amdalat Olaniyan and called for thorough investigation to bring the culprits to book.
“He equally described as unwarranted the purported move to impeach the Deputy Governor stressing that it would bring about crisis pointing out that such experience in the past dragged the State to a decade of decadence.
“PAG lauded the members of the House of Assembly for coming out to deny the planned impeachment warning them not to be used as agents to destabilize the State.
“PAG would not derail in its objective of ensuring good governance is instituted at all levels of government so as to bring succour to the hapless and helpless masses”.
