Supreme Court has ruled in favour of Akeredolu in the suit filed by Eyitayo Jegede challeging the victory of the latter.
The Supreme Court has ruled in favour of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the appeal by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last governorship election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede against the victory of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of the All Progrssives Congress (APC).
This newspaper reports that the landmark ruling delivered by a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili chose after taking final listening to lawyers representing both parties ruled that Akeredolu was duly elected as the governor of Ondo state in the last guber election in the state.
The main appeal, filed by Jegede and his party, are challenging the competence of APC’s sponsorship of Akeredolu for the election. There are also three cross-appeals by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC and Akeredolu.
The suit of Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was thrown out by the panel, thereby upholding Akredolu’s victory in the October 10th, 2020 Gubernatorial elections.
