“In keeping silent about evil, in burying it so deep within us that no sign of it appears on the surface, we are implanting it, and it will rise up a thousand fold in the future. When we neither punish nor reproach evildoers, we are not simply protecting their trivial old age, we are thereby ripping the foundations of justice from beneath new generations.”
― Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 1918–1956.
Today I would begin with famous quotes on “Justice” because of the prevailing circumstances hovering above our NATION. According to Martin Luther King Jnr , “Injustice” anywhere is a threat to Justice Everywhere, man cannot be freed by the same injustice that enslaved it.
In other words, Justice is the firm and continuous desire to render to everyone that which is his due.
I laugh when I see Nigerians from all strata always complaining of woes when the solution lies within them, the Federal Government gives excuses for its failure and heaps the blame on the citizens for the drop in moral values, the citizens, in turn, fail to tell themselves the truth and shame those amongst them that are criminals and perpetrating a crime.
I have always opined that political will to act in order to rectify things is our bane, once our leadership that is entrusted to implement the laws do the needful then crime would be reduced to the barest minimum.
In as much as our constitution can be said to be defective, genuine implementation of our constitution would go a long way in resolving our security challenges and corruption eating deep into our system.
Today Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho have been caged by the Federal Government over their acts of insubordination and calling for a separatist Nation.
I have spoken extensively on the mistakes deployed by these “indomie” freedom fighters in asking for a separatist Nation and I applaud the actions of the Federal Government of prosecuting these so-called liberators that have violated our constitution consistently all in the name of fighting for a separatist Nation.
“Injustice” anywhere is a threat to Justice Everywhere, as long as the Islamic scholar, Abubakar Mahmud Sheikh Gumi is walking around a free man then the FG is hypocritical in its fight against terrorism and banditry which are the major plague facing the NATION today.
Who is a bandit?
A robber or outlaw belonging to a gang and typically operating in an isolated or lawless area.
Who is a kidnapper?
A person who abducts someone and holds them captive, typically to obtain a ransom.
Who is a Terrorist?
An advocate or practitioner of terrorism as a means of coercion.
From the definitions above I can confidently say Sheikh Gumi is an agent of a terrorist organisation, bandits and herds of kidnappers. The last time I checked all these crimes combined are more heinous than the crimes of Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu.
In what capacity is the man Sheikh Gumi negotiating with these aforementioned outlawed groups? Is Sheikh Gumi a licensed agent to discuss with terrorists, kidnappers and bandits? Does he have a license to operate in such a capacity?
Are you aware that Sheikh Gumi is a medical doctor and former military officer? Gumi wanders around like a peacemaker, pilots the flag of a negotiator but quietly sowing the seed of division and generational violence.
Gumi protects these criminals to the extent that he incites these offenders and even the average northerner against Christians in the Nigerian Army an allegation capable of tearing our Nation apart.
Recall how a few months ago Gumi sold the dummy to his friends and comrades ( the bandits) that the military onslaught against them was the work of overzealous Christian soldiers. Imagine how nauseating that can be.
For a former Grand Khadi of the Northern Region of Nigeria (1962–1967), a position which made him a central authority in the interpretation of the Sharia legal system in the region then it is shocking that this same man has decided to act as a negotiator between kidnappers, bandits and terrorist organisations. He should know better, if the sharia law was to apply to these offenders by now these criminals would not even have hands to carry an AK 47 they presently use In tormenting the citizens of Nigeria.
Their hands should have been long cut off before they grew into these monsters they are.
Let me break the atrocities of Sheikh Gumi so the DSS and the FG can do the needful in making sure this man is brought to book and given the same treatment Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho are currently going through.
I did ask earlier, in what capacity is Sheikh Gumi acting as an agent to these outlawed groups? The security agencies should as a matter of urgency look into the allegations made by the parents of some school kids that Gumi collects money through a proxy in negotiating the freedom of kidnapped school children. Today the army is currently in the East arresting people that are associated with the Eastern Security Network, we have seen so many arrested for fabricating guns, doing charms and providing cover for members of the outlawed ESN.
Gumi is not only openly identifying with these declared criminals he still has the audacity to throw allegations at the Nigerian Army and yet he walks scot-free.
From the past negotiations, Gumi seems to even have the Federal Government as its client, in that the celebrated negotiator was an agent in the negotiation between the abduction of 200 Islamiyya schoolchildren in the Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State and so many others.
We can not speak for the FG if Gumi was paid a commission for the negotiations but what of the parents of other kidnapped school children and citizens that run to Gumi to seek help in negotiating with these bandits? Do they pay commission too? Isn’t that a criminal offence?
Now the acts of Sheikh Gumi in negotiating heavy ransoms for bandits has renewed the agitations in the South of a sinister motive by a group of Northern power brokers in eliminating Southerners which in turn fuels the activities of these same ” Freedom Fighters’ in the persons of Kanu and Igboho with hundreds of others in the loop.
These are the daily calls I get when I write on the undesirable methods deployed by Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho in seeking a separatist Nation.
” Osigwe what is wrong with you? You are talking of Kanu and Igboho when Bandits are being paid ransom in the North for kidnapping our citizens?
” Osigwe you must be mad not to see that our citizens can no longer farm in the South again because of these killer herdsmen and bandits that are compensated by the Federal Government?
If you want peace then you must work for justice, Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu can not be behind bars and yet a known unlicensed agent that works in collaboration with unknown criminals is walking free and even taking selfies with these daredevils. What a shame, what purity can the Federal Government preach to avoid the life of ORGANISED crime?
The cleric even went ahead to tell the government to further sponsor splinter BANDITRY GROUPS among bandits as a way to end banditry in the country. Is that not an avenue to have more clients and make more money for himself?
You see during the Niger Delta struggle and the peak of militancy a lot of people cashed out by acting as negotiators between the militants and oil companies, so there is nothing you would tell a session of us that Gumi is not financially profiting from such huge negotiations.
E b like u wan tell me say police no dey collect money for bail. I only imagine what 10 % would do for the Islamic cleric.
I like the Northern Islamic clerics for their humility even when flowing in billions, unlike their Southern counterpart that once small money enter their hand na to they run go buy private Jet. But these northern Islamic clerics would have the same amount of money and dem go just lock up as if one kobo no enter their system.
Now going forward, since Gumi keeps making a case for these unknown bandits and high valued criminals let us ask him, what role has he played to rehabilitate these his friends and acquaintances? How many of them has he brought to the government to incorporate into the society, provide them jobs. offer them scholarships and other empowerment?
When the negotiators were demanding fair treatment in the EVIL oil exploration in the Niger Delta these were their demands by the Niger Delta Militants, but Sheikh Gumi instead is telling the government to further split and sponsor criminal gangs, thereby making banditry an INSTITUTION in Nigeria.
It only goes to show that his acts are capable of undermining the unity and cohesion of Nigeria. Gumi is an advocate for terrorists and hence makes him one.
You see Justice knows no friendship and the ethics and principles of Justice do not change with the calendar.
Justice Must Prevail, Sheikh Gumi Should Be treated in the same way and manner with Nnamdi Kanu And Sunday Igboho, I rest my case.
