The Executive Chairman, Kajola Local Government, Area of Oyo State, Hon.(Alhaji) Salimonu Adebayo Afolabi Borikansunwon has charged the newly elected councillors to avoid and give no room for external influence and sectional interest which he stressed are capable of impeding the progress and overall success of his current administration.
At the inauguration covered by Khalid Imran, Editor-in-Chief, naijatodaynews.com, Borikansunwon made an appeal on Wednesday,June 02, at the Local Government Secretariat, while conducting the inauguration of the councillors and official elections of the principal officers.
The Council Boss reiterated that the lawmakers should not engage in an act which could undermine and hinder the progress of the administration, adding that they should outrightly avoid external influence and sectional interest which are weighty enough to hamper the stability and success of the current political administration at the local level.
Borikansunwon described the councillors elect, who would equally act as 9th House as watchdogs to the government whose responsibilities are geared towards the fruitful deliberations and promulgation of bylaws which are meant for the wellbeing, social, economic and political prosperity of the Kajolites.
In another vein, Hon. Aiyegboyin Kehinde Olayemi, from Ward 08(Isemi-Ile, Imia, Ilua) emerged the leader of the house with seven(7) votes, while his opponent, Hon. Babatunde Rufus, from Ward 01(Aiyetoro) had aggregate of four(4) votes in an open ballot system of election organized by Barrister S.A.Olalekan, on behalf of Mr Adedokun, the Director of Administration and General Services (DAGS) for the local government.
Aiyegboyin while performing his first duty, he presided over the nominations and elections that brought in Hon. Hamzat Taofeek Adebare, Ward 09(Isia) as the Deputy Leader, Hon. Adediran Tajudeen, Ward02(Elero), as the Majority Leader and Hon. Kabiru Gbanigbani, Ward04(Ogan-Bode) as the Chief Whip respectively.
Barrister S.A. Olalekan swore the principal officers to oaths of offices and allegiance, while DAGS decorated the leader with official regalia, placed the symbol of authority(mace) before him and presented him other instruments of office.
Earlier, the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), Mr Gbenga Adediji while substantiating the purpose of gathering, disclosed the procedures through which the principal officers would be officially emerged.
HLGA expatiated that the leader of the house would firstly emerge on a note of priority, while the successful leader would subsequently preside over the nominations and elections of other principal officers.
Shortly after acquainting the house with the modes and rules of engagement, Adediji promised that the principal officers officers and other lawmakers would be guided on operational guidelines, so as to make fruitful and productive bylaws in the long run.
HLGA called on the parliamentarians to maintain mutual and cordial relationship among one another, and equally work harmoniously with the executive chairman and the career officers, in order attain the sole aim of good governance.
The inaugural session was well attended by creme-de-creme among the political leaders, career officers at the local level, security agents and host of others.
