The newly elected Chairman, Kajola Local Government, Area of Oyo State, Hon.(Alhaji) Salimonu Adebayo Afolabi Borikansunwon has enjoined the councillors elect across eleven wards of the council to refrain from using their elections and portfolios to serve any narrow or sectional interest.
Borikansunwon gave words of admonition during the occasion of swearing-in of elected councillors, moderated by Information Officer, Comrade Richard Adekunle at the Local Government Secretariat, Meseole, Okeho on Wednesday, May 26.
The Chairman elect, congratulated the newly elected representatives of the people from all political wards, for being counted worthy to contribute their own quota towards the welfare of the masses, he therefore enjoined them to see their elections as a clarion call to duty to serve their fatherland, reiterating that their elections and assumption of offices were not meant to serve any narrow or sectional interest.
Borikansunwon welcomed the lawmakers on board and charged them to be up and down on task that centres on the responsibility of formulating and implementing various policies and programmes that affect areas of jurisdiction for the overall development of the council area.
In another vein, he called on his vice chairman, Hon. Oyediran Gedion Bolanle, the councillors elect and others to cooperate maximally, in order to attain the possible results on his preparedness to doggedly implement the four(4) cardinal programmes of Governor Seyi Makinde at the local level.
According to him, I make bold to assure you all that my administration is prepared to doggedly implement the four (4) cardinal programmes of Governor Oluseyi Abiodun’s administration in Oyo State in order to ensure improvement and value change in the areas of economy, education, heath and security”.
He added, “without doubt, our dynamic and amiable Governor has set the ball rolling on the laudable programmes which have reflected in the giant strides on: economic revampment through sustainable agriculture, free and qualitative education, quality and standard healthcare delivery system as well as security of lives and properties occasioned by the existing relative peace across the length and breadth of our dear state among others”.
Earlier, the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr Gbenga Adediji disclosed that the power which the elected chairmen have now, is higher than that of while acting on caretaker basis.
Adediji reiterated that though the chairman has executive ability to carry out some programmes and projects, the security challenges of this country has technically hindered some sources through which money could be generated to fund those projects.
He enjoined the people not to commit the council boss and councillors to enormous tasks which they cannot shoulder and moreover called on the lawmakers not to run away from their constituents, having assumed the mantle of leadership.
The councillors elect, who are Hon. Babatunde Rufus(Ward1), Hon.Adediran Tajudeen(Ward2), Hon. Kareem Yisau(Ward3), Hon. Kabiru Olagoke Gbanigbani(Ward4), Hon. Idowu Rasak(Ward5), Hon. Taiwo Mary(Ward6), Hon. Azeez Mojeed(Ward7), Hon. Ayegboyin Kehinde Olayemi(Ward8), Hon.Amusat Taofiq(Ward9), Hon. Sangoleye Iyiola Abiodun(Ward10) and Hon. Salami O. Mudasheer(11) had their oath of offices administered by Barrister S.A Olalekan.
The programme was well attended by Peoples Democratic Party’s Council Chairman, Leaders, members, career officers at the local levels and host of others.
