The Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Kajola Local Government, Area of Oyo State, Alhaji(Hon.) Saliman Adebayo Afolabi Borikansunwon has been declared winner of the council chairmanship election held on Saturday, May 22. While the candidate of Action Democratic Party(ADP), Hon. Salawu Ige had hours before the commencement of the poll withdrawn his candidature from the exercise.
Borikansunwon scored aggregate votes of 21,933, out of 22, 497 total votes announced by the Returning Officer, Professor Rasheed Hamzat at the Local Government Secretariat, Meseole, Okeho (Council Collation Centre).
In his substantiation, the Local Electoral Officer, Prince Wale Koleade Adigun substantiated that Borikansunwon had scored the highest numbers of votes qualifying him as the winner,stressing that the Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission(OYSIEC), Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju is at liberty and electorally allowed to declare him the winner.
In his appreciative message, the newly elected Chairman, Afolabi Borikansunwon lauded the local Electoral Officers and Returning Officer over an exhibition of transparency and credibility that culminated in free and fair exercise.
Earlier, Borikansunwon who cast his vote at 8:05am, ward 11, Unit 12 thanked all members of OYSIEC Staff whose work and participation birthed transparency, credibility and fairness of an electoral exercise.
He appreciated all PDP leaders, women wings, youths’ wing and other members of the party who stood thick and thin till the end of the civic exercise, promising that he will do the needful to extend the dividends of democracy to all and sundry.
The Electoral Officers, Prince Wale Koleade Adigun and Alhaji Saliu Akindele Ojo lauded the OYSIEC Chairman, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju for his firm stance and readiness that is geared towards the successful fruition of the civic duty, describing him a man who cares for justice, fairness and sincerity.
Kajola PDP Chairman, Chief Johnson Ojebiyi described the election as a peaceful and fruitful one, stressing that it is worthy of joy and appreciation to God that the exercise went hitch free and had no record of violence nor blood shed.
Earlier, Hon Kabeer Yekeen Otitoloju commended the Electoral Officers and other pillars of democracy who participated actively towards the smooth running of the exercise, predicting that the popular candidate would emerge subsequently.
The Head of Local Government Administration(HLGA), Mr Gbenga Adediji who went the nooks and crannies of the local government, applauded the civic exercise and thanked God that election recorded no violence and other forms of disorderliness.
The party candidates for councillorship positions won ten out of eleven wards while ADC candidate in ward 06 coasted home to victory.
