The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru said that despite current challenges of insecurity ravaging the nooks and crannies of Nigeria, Nigeria Army under his current leadership will be better repositioned and reformed for optimal efficiency.
Attahiru said this on Tuesday, May 18, at the 2nd Division, Nigeria Army, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ojoo, Ibadan, Oyo State, on the occasion of First Senior Command and Leadership Seminar for Brigade Commanders and General Officers’ Commanding 2021.
COAS emphasised that it is no longer a gainsaying and indisputable fact that the country is currently battling the menace of insecurity that is characterised by terrorism, banditry and secessionists, agitation among others, stressing that the only way to curb the incessant bad phenomenal is to engage the Army of Soldiers on how the predicament will be tackled.
Attahiru said that the Army will be better under his current leadership via training and retraining in order to attain the anticipated results capable of checkmating the challenges and compete favourably with the counterparts at the International Fora.
While declaring the seminar open, Attahiru promised to ensure that the necessary provisions would be provided, so as to make the programme an itch free and fruitful one, lavishing encomiums on the resource persons who are billed to give balanced and objective justice to the course of engagement.
General Officer Commanding, Major General Chibuisi Gold equally acknowledged the prevalence of security challenges in the country, adding that the option to permanently address the worried and disheartening menace is to ascertain that the soldiers are knowledgeable and skillful, so as to know how to tackle scenarios êê a as challenges appear to them.
Chibuisi disclosed that the presence of the resource persons on presentation of diverse lectures will help improving and expanding the soldiers’ horizon of knowledge, skills and wisdom on professional engagement.
GOC however welcomed the Chief of Army Staff to pacesetter state and promised to make his stay in Ibadan comfortable. Enjoining all participants to adhere strictly to Covid-19 protocols while the seminar is in progress.
In his own submission, former Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan, Prof Osisioma Neoloisi disclosed that the seminar will no doubt proffer solutions to the challenges of banditry, terrorism and secessionists’ agitation.
Neolisi added that Nigeria Army lacks adequate knowledge to combat the current Nigeria’s security challenges but only applying fire brigade approach to get things done.
He emphasised that the seminar after its completion will offer the participants an opportunity to handle the engagement of protection of lives and properties professionally.
Neolisi however enjoined the government to lessen the burden it entrusted into Army’s care, saying Army can’t handle the policemen’s duties with its and be expecting productive results.
