In furtherance of the economic empowerment efforts of the Oyo State Government ably led by Engr. Abiodun Oluseyi Makinde, the management of Kajola Local Government area of the state has presented economic take-off grants to the women of the council area.
The epoch making occasion that was coordinated by Information Officer, Comrade Richard Adekunle took place on Thursday, April 22 at the conference room of the Local Government Secretariat, Meseole, Okeho where the take-off grants were distributed to the women across the eleven(11) wards that make Kajola Local Government and Iwa Local Council Development Area(LCDA).
In his speech, The Head of Local Government Area(HLGA), Mr Gabriel Gbenga Adediji said, ” it is imperative to adopt a strategic plan for the womenfolk through empowerment and economic support programmes for the teaming population of our grassroots women who are often prone to incidents of internal welfare in the form of loss of spouses, children, parents and siblings, displacement from their ancestral homes, destruction of their means of livelihood and exposure to gender specific abuses”.
In his furtherance, ” it is in this vein that our pacesetting local government is taking concrete steps aimed at positively enhancing the living standards of rural women through economic take-off grants for their vocational and petty trades”.
HLGA charged the beneficiaries of government’s magnanimity to rise up to the task and embark on sustainable and profitable ventures which would justify the motive behind government’s good gesture.
In his own submission, The Director of Education and Social Services(DESS) to the local government, Comrade Samson O. Ojo said that the usefulness of womenfolk to home making, husbands, families and others was the main reason which precipitated the presentation of economic take-off grants to women in all the 11 wards of the Council Area.
DESS stressed that Oyo State Government under the current administration of Engr. Seyi Makinde had empowered categories of people in the local area, reiterating that government has embarked on strategic thinking that centred on masses’ welfare and alleviation of poverty in the society.
The Former Caretaker Chairman, Alhaji(Hon) Salimonu Adebayo Afolabi Borikansunwon lavished encomiums on Governor Seyi Makinde for his continuum with economic empowerment efforts aimed at alleviating poverty and improves people’s standard of living.
Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Hon Johnson Ojebiyi berated APC led government at the centre for its failure to end kidnappings, banditry and improve economic instability of the country, urging people to vote PDP at the local government election slated for May 22 and 2023 general elections respectively.
The programme was well attended by HLGA, Mr Gabriel Gbenga Adediji, Director of Administration and General Services (DAGS), Mr J.O Adedokun, Director of Finance, Mr Adebayo Awobode, DESS, Com. Samson O. Ojo and other members of staff in the local government.
Also in attendance were former Caretaker Chairman, Alhaji(Hon) Salimonu Adebayo Afolabi Borikansunwon, Ex Secretary, Mr Gbenga Ogundokun, ex members, party chairman, Hon Johnson Ojebiyi, PDP stalwarts, members and beneficiaries respectively.
