The Chairman, Oyo State Sports Council, Hon. Gbenga Adewusi Arole has said that an ongoing project of Lekan Salami Stadium’s rehabilitation at Mokola, Ibadan,will soon become an international standard that attracts sports’ men and spectators across the world.
Arole stated this while speaking with the crew of naijatodaynews.com at his office in Ibadan, the capital of the state, stressing that the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the stadium which has been abandoned for almost 45 years would soon wear an international outlook that attracts sports’ men and others across the globe.
The Chairman said that Governor Seyi Makinde should be commended for considering it a laudable project which has been given a priority at this material time that the state is battling with paucity of funds.
Arole said that while completed, it would no doubt increase the Internal Generated Revenue(IGR) of the pacesetter state, adding that the stadium’s beautiful outlook and availability of notable facilities would attract the sports’ men and others whose presence would eventually culminate into generation of money into state’s pause.
He described Engr Seyi Makinde as a sharp and vibrant young man whose prime intention is to build a kind of reputation and legacy that the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo has been established and enjoying till today.
Arole described the relationship between his office and the Ministry of Youths and Sports as cordial and mutual one that devoids of sentiments capable of hindering the progress and development.
Omolabake Alabi, a Board Member to Sports Council disclosed that the project would complete within twelve (12) months, she added though Makinde gave eighteen(18) months, she believes the project would be completed within the stated period sequel to hard work, dedication and commitment of the contractors.
Alabi lavished encomiums on Arole for being an open minded boss whom she described as someone who carries people along in all his deeds.
She stressed that the cooperation, mutual and cordial relationship among one another at the sports council had been instrumental to speedy development in the ministry.
In the same vein, Gbenga Makinde, General Manager, Oyo State Sports Council said that when the stadium is completed, it would accommodate not less than different thirty five(35) sports, adding that its proposed beautiful outlook would put the pacesetter state on international map.
Makinde disclosed that the stadium has taken the budgetary allocation of #5.5b when the contractors would be paying in tranches within the next twenty nine(29) months, adding that its ongoing rehabilitation is being supervised to enhance its perfect standard.
He stressed that the stadium would soon be compared with other standard stadia like the ones in Akwa-ibom and Delta States and most importantly can have an outlook of Webley Stadium in England.
