A 300L Student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology(LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Seyi Ojelabi, popularly known as ‘SHYNE’ has developed a technology to aid and make life easier for people with visual impairments.
In an interaction with Ogbomoso born and Undergraduate Technologist, SHYNE said that the technology named “See-Tok” was developed to give aid and make life better for the visually impaired individuals.
Adding that, the technology was also able and capable to detect obstacles on their ways and gives feedback in form of sounds for easy navigation.
SHYNE said that the condition of his visually impaired cousin got him inspired to develop the technology, stressing that ever since the development of “See-Tok”, he had been watching her get eased and independent which he affirmed giving him joy, and believes such joy could be multiplied by replicating the development for several other visually impaired individuals.
At the Nigeria Training Center for the Blind in Ogbomoso, geo-political zone of the state, one of the blinds on whom the technology was tested expressed his delight in the technology.
Saying that, “If this kind of technology could be done, there is hope for we visually impaired persons in Nigeria, that there is more on the way”.
Seyi is also currently working on an advancement in the technology which will be able to detect currency and colours and some other things.
