The caretaker chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Hon. Olaide Popoola Settle says registration for national identity card through the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) will ease the stress of the people, provide appropriate figure of the state population for effective national planning.
The chairman stated this on Tuesday (March 10, 2020) in Idi Ayunre, in an interview with journalists to mark the official opening of registration outlet in his council.
He said that government at all levels would plan better and give proper attention to security in the country with proper documentation of residents by NIMC.
“I am glad that national identity card registration would start in our local government, which is first of its kind to collaborate with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, and that an office, well furnised has been set aside for the hitch-free registration of the good people of this local government. It is my joy that as the nearest government to the people, we are going to walk the talk.
“We know that getting our people to register with NIMC is very important to us as a council. Proper documentation will facilitate all kinds of planning, because the greatest challenge we have as a nation is planning.
“We can only do properly when we have the figures right; most times, we use projections because various demography needed for planning are not in place.
“It is also very important, and concerning issues of intelligence and security, I think that this makes it very key for us as a nation for everybody to support this course.
“Security challenges will be curbed by the time we are able to have our people properly registered and documented,’’ the chairman said.
On his part, the Coordinator of NIMC in the state, Mr Olusola Sotayo said “we are commencing the national identity card in Oluyole LGA as a result of the intervention of Hon. Settle through the provision of office, power generating set, fan and other logistics. He claimed that the feat is a pacesetting stride, novel idea and first of its kind in the state.
“We are encouraging every residents of Oluyole for enrolment and get enrolled for life; it is free and everybody is meant to do it.
Sotayo commended Settle’s administration for its support to the commission and appealed for the sustenance of the relationship.
