The Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District in Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, Senator(Dr.) Muhammed Kola Balogun has led Oyo Peoples Democratic Party’s(PDP) Caucus in the highest Nigeria’s Legislative Chamber to Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu on appreciation of his efforts to assure that peace returns fully to Oyo State.
The words of appreciation were showered on IGP in his office in Abuja on Thursday, 5th March, 2020 when Senator Kola Balogun and other Oyo PDP Caucus in House of Representatives went on a courtesy visit to show appreciation.
In their words, “we appreciated him for his efforts in ensuring that peace returns fully to Oyo State and urged him to ensure that the peace is sustained”. said Balogun
In their explanation, “we explained to him that the case of Oyo State is different from that of Ekiti LG elections where elections were conducted into constitutionally recognized LGs whereas in Oyo State the last LG elections were conducted into LCDAs and the remaining fragmentations of the LGs thereby making the elections improper, illegal and unconstitutional”.
Balogun said, ” I specifically thanked him for ensuring that Ibarapa axis is now fully policed which had drastically reduced kidnapping and other vices and prayed that same be also sustained. Indeed through electronic camera devices, I also spoke directly (face to face) to the Oyo State Police Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu whilst with the IGP and raised the urgent need to approve Igangan Police Command as a Divisional headquarters to sustain the security gains and the renewed zeal of commercial banks to have their branches in Igangan”.
Balogun narrated,”the Oyo Police Commissioner explained that he had applied to the IGP for approval to have Igangan Police Command upgraded to a Divisional Police headquarters. The IGP there and then approved Igangan Police Command as Igangan Divisional Police headquarters and directed the Oyo State Police Commissioner to bring forward his papers in that respect for regularisation”.
In his admonition, “I also called the Commissioner’s attention to the need to continue to rejig the state police security architecture by moving his men around the various divisions in the state from time to time so that they don’t stay put in one division for long. The Commissoner indicated that he had done that two weeks ago”.
He said, “The IGP attended to us in a most friendly and pleasant manner. Very fruitful courtesy/working visit indeed”.
