In a breakthrough development, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping of Mrs. Folashade Odumosu, the wife of former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu. The suspects, 27-year-old Smart Agbojule and 30-year-old Michael Keleke, were apprehended by police operatives in Lagos and have confessed to receiving a ransom of N20m ¹.
According to the suspects, they were hired by an unknown individual to carry out the kidnapping. They alleged that the mastermind contacted one of their accomplices, who was killed during a gun duel with the police on the day Mrs. Odumosu was rescued.
The suspects revealed that they demanded a ransom of N40m from the family but received only N20m. Each member of the syndicate received N4,250,000 from the ransom proceed. The suspects also provided details of how they carried out the kidnapping, hiding Mrs. Odumosu under a palm tree at the back of her house before transporting her to the creek.
The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that a sum of N12,250,000 was recovered from the suspects during the rescue operation and the arrest of the two suspects.
Mrs. Odumosu was abducted by four masked men on January 16, and the police launched a rescue operation, resulting in the killing of two kidnappers and the arrest of the two suspects. The police are still investigating the case to uncover the identity of the mastermind behind the kidnapping.
The arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the ransom money demonstrate the police’s commitment to combating kidnapping and ensuring justice for victims and their families.
