In a significant development, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has formally approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo. This decision marks the end of a prolonged period of uncertainty and controversy that followed the passing of the former Alaafin, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Prince Owoade’s appointment was made after thorough consultations and divinations, and he has been recommended by the Oyomesi, the traditional council of kingmakers in Oyo Kingdom ¹.
The Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ademola Ojo, has welcomed the development, stating that it brings to an end all the socio-legal disputes that have arisen since the demise of the former Alaafin. Hon. Ojo has called on all citizens of Oyo State to join the government in celebrating this momentous occasion and to lend their support to the new Alaafin.
As Prince Owoade prepares to ascend the throne, the people of Oyo Kingdom are optimistic that his reign will bring peace, prosperity, and unity to the historic kingdom.
