In a significant development, three prominent opposition leaders in Nigeria – Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso – have resumed merger talks ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The trio aims to create a strong coalition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and rescuing Nigerians from hunger and insecurity.
According to the deputy national spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Abdullahi, the three opposition candidates from the previous elections are prepared to set aside personal ambitions to achieve this goal. Abdullahi stated that discussions are ongoing, and one of the trio may yield to the other, providing a clear direction for the party.
The move comes as Nigerians face widespread insecurity and hunger, with the APC’s incumbent administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu facing criticism for its handling of the country’s challenges. The PDP chieftain emphasized that salvaging Nigerians from the present hardship is more important than individual ambitions.
This development marks a significant shift in the political landscape, as the opposition leaders seek to unite and challenge the APC’s dominance in the 2027 elections. With the merger talks underway, Nigerians eagerly await the outcome, hoping for a change in leadership that will address the country’s pressing issues.
