Oyo Speaker, Ogundoyin, To Mark World Sickle Cell Day In Honor Of Late Father

Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers in Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin, has, on behalf of the Ogundoyin family announced Wednesday June 19, 2024 as a day to mark World Sickle Cell Day in honor of late father, Adeseun Ogundoyin.

The event is scheduled to hold at Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, opposite UCH Ibadan, at 9 o’clock in the morning.

The event, themed “Uniting For World Sickle Cell Awareness Day”, aimed to raise awareness and provide support for millions living with Sickle Cell Disease worldwide.

The Ogundoyin family is commemorating the day in memory of their late father, Chief Adeseun Ogundoyin, a carrier of the condition who passed away on June 18, 1991, exactly 33 years ago.

The event will empower and sensitize over 500 Sickle Cell Disease patients in Oyo State, encouraging them not to see the condition as a death sentence.

As a token of support, 100 patients is expected to receive cash gifts.

The event is also aimed at making a difference in the lives of those with SCD and keep the memories of Late Chief Adeseun Ogundoyin alive.
