The recent commissioning of the 76.67km Alao-Akala Highway in Oyo State has sparked widespread praise and admiration for Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to infrastructure development. The project, which connects Oke Ogun to Ogbomoso, has been hailed as a vital link between the state’s economic zones and a testament to the governor’s dedication to leaving a lasting legacy.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the commissioning, praised Governor Makinde for his exemplary leadership, stating that posterity would be kind to him. The Vice President’s glowing tribute comes despite being from a different political party, highlighting the governor’s achievements in building infrastructure that targets the state’s economy.

Governor Makinde’s commitment to infrastructure development began early in his administration, with the reconstruction of the 65km Moniya-Iseyin Road. Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was completed within 18 months, setting a high standard for infrastructure development in the state. The government then embarked on a comprehensive infrastructure development drive, connecting all zones of the state with a network of roads within the first four years.

The 76.67km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road, named after former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, is a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development. The project, which was conceptualized and completed within two years, has been described as a masterpiece and a model for state governments. The road connects Oke Ogun to Ogbomoso, facilitating trade and movement between the two zones and reducing travel time for commuters.

The project’s significance extends beyond Oyo State, as it also connects the southwest to the Northern part of the country, making it a vital economic artery. The road has been hailed as a testament to Governor Makinde’s vision and leadership, setting a new standard for governance in the state and beyond.

Despite political differences, the Vice President’s praise for Governor Makinde’s achievements highlights the governor’s commitment to excellent service delivery. The project’s commissioning was attended by chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, who acknowledged the governor’s achievements in infrastructure development. Governor Makinde’s legacy project has set a high bar for future administrations, cementing his place in the annals of Oyo State’s history as a leader who prioritized the people’s needs and left a lasting impact on the state’s development.
