The ceremony, held on Tuesday, marked a significant milestone in the preparations for the highly anticipated event, set to take place in August 2024 in Oyo Town.

During his opening remarks, Commissioner Olatubosun expressed gratitude to key individuals instrumental in securing UNESCO’s approval for the World Sango Festival, namely Mr. Emmanuel Odekanyin from UNESCO Division and Dr. Paula Gomez, the Cultural Ambassador to Alaafin of Oyo. Their efforts not only garnered international recognition for the festival but also positioned Oyo State as a leading destination in the global tourism landscape.

The next Sango Festival, expected to attract over 15,000 local and international tourists, holds immense promise for showcasing the cultural richness and diversity of Oyo State. Commissioner Olatubosun urged the committee members to honor the legacy of Duro Ladipo, the founder of Sango promotion, by involving his family in the planning process. He stressed the importance of adhering to international standards to attract a global audience while also respecting the traditions and beliefs of Sango worshippers.

Heading the organizing committee is Chief Mrs. Olayinka Adedeji, the general manager of the Cultural Center in Ibadan, with Dr. Gomez serving as the co-chair. The committee comprises stakeholders and officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, tasked with various responsibilities including securing sponsorships, promoting the festival locally and internationally, selecting an appropriate venue, and ensuring cost-effective solutions to enhance the festival’s value.

The week-long festival will feature a range of activities aimed at celebrating the essence of Sango culture, including a symposium with distinguished speakers, captivating Sango performances, entertainment, and colorful parades. As preparations gain momentum, all eyes are on Oyo State as it gears up to host one of the most anticipated cultural events of 2024, promising an unforgettable experience for attendees from around the world.
