In commemoration of the 2024 World Health Day, the Oyo State government has emphasized the importance of prioritizing individual health rights as a fundamental aspect of human life. The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, reiterated this call during an event held at the Ministry’s Car Park on Friday.
Under the theme “My Health, My Right,” Dr. Ajetunmobi underscored the significance of health as an inherent right, irrespective of one’s background or circumstances. She emphasized the necessity of ensuring that every individual has access to the highest standard of physical and mental health, alongside the autonomy to make informed decisions regarding their well-being.
Highlighting the alignment of this year’s theme with the Omituntun 2.0 Agenda, Governor Seyi Makinde’s health policy, Dr. Ajetunmobi stressed the government’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC). This initiative aims to provide essential healthcare services without financial strain, improve healthcare infrastructure, promote health equity, and encourage community participation in healthcare decision-making.
The commissioner lauded Governor Makinde’s support in enhancing healthcare delivery across the state, citing initiatives such as the expansion of the Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme and the renovation of primary healthcare facilities.
Moreover, efforts to prevent disease outbreaks were highlighted, including the training of healthcare workers in epidemic management and immunization. Dr. Ajetunmobi urged citizens to actively engage in promoting health equity and dismantling barriers to healthcare access.
In their messages, representatives from the World Health Organization and the Oyo State Hospital Management Board reiterated the importance of health-conscious behavior, regular medical checkups, and hygiene practices.
Dr. Akintunde Ayinde, the Permanent Secretary of the Oyo State Ministry of Health, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring accessibility, affordability, and quality in healthcare services, as outlined in the Omituntun 2.0 Agenda.
The event served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to uphold health rights and create a society where every individual can thrive and fulfill their potential.
