Governor Makinde Commends Late Olubadan’s Legacy In Restoring Peace To Ibadan Chieftaincy System

In a poignant tribute, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State extolled the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Dr) Mohood Lekan Balogun, for his remarkable efforts in restoring stability to the Olubadan Chieftaincy System during his reign. The governor’s heartfelt sentiments were expressed during a condolence visit to the family of the departed monarch at his Alarere residence.

Oba Balogun, a former Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, is remembered for his pivotal role in averting potential crises within the traditional institution, ensuring unity and cohesion during his tenure. Governor Makinde, reflecting on their personal relationship, emphasized the depth of their bond, transcending political affiliations.

“His passing is not just a loss to me personally but to the entirety of Ibadanland and Oyo State,” Governor Makinde remarked. “We shared a relationship that went beyond politics. He was instrumental in resolving critical issues within the chieftaincy system, laying the foundation for peace and progress.”

The governor pledged the state government’s commitment to organizing a dignified burial for the revered monarch, affirming that funds had been approved for the Fidau Prayers and other necessary arrangements. Governor Makinde urged the late Olubadan’s family to remain united during this period of mourning, stressing the importance of solidarity in navigating challenges.

“We should find solace in the fact that he departed during this holy month, a testament to divine grace,” Governor Makinde added. “His legacy will endure, serving as a beacon of inspiration for future generations.”

Chief Tajudeen Aremu, representing the Alli Iwo Family, expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for his steadfast support towards the late Olubadan during his lifetime. Aremu highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the governor, including infrastructural development and support for the construction of the new Olubadan Palace, as tangible demonstrations of his commitment to the traditional institution.

Mrs. Funmilayo Osinowo, the first daughter of the late Oba Balogun, conveyed heartfelt appreciation to Governor Makinde for his compassion and care towards their father. Religious leaders present during the visit offered special prayers for the repose of the late Olubadan’s soul, underscoring his enduring impact on the community.
