Makinde Did Not Consult Labour Before Wage Award Extension, We Will Join 27,28 February Nationwide Protest — Oyo NLC, TUC Vow

The Oyo State Labour Centres have insisted its readiness to join the proposed nationwide protest announced by its national body on February 27.

The state Labour leaders under the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress said it will join the solidarity protest scheduled for 27 and 28 February while visited the Governor’s office, Secretariat, Agodi Ibadan on Tuesday.

Speaking with newsmen, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Oyo State Council, Kayode Martins noted that the announcement of extension of wage award to workers last week was appreciated.

He added that the announcement was made without consultation with the state workers by the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde.

In his reaction, Chairman, Trade Union Council, Oyo State, Bosun Olabiyi maintained that cost of living in the country has been so expensive and the executive should make sure its expedites action on its minimum wage review platform to increase the ease of service of both the federal and state civil servants.

Meanwhile, the workers’ leaders insisted that only if its national body calls for a sit at home order, then, the planned nationwide protest will not be observed.

Recall, governor,Seyi Makinde had announced extension of wage award payment to Oyo workers last Friday at the commissioning of 12.5kilometre Odo Ona-Elewe-Elebu- Apata dualized road as a response to cushioning the evil effects of fuel subsidy removal and lingering high cost of living.
