The Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State has told its freelance journalists, and other contract staff members that their employment with the organization terminates on January 31st, 2024.

Adewale Tijani made this known today on behalf of the Chairman, Dotun Olaitan, in a circular dated 29 December 2023 and titled “Circular To All Freelance Artiates And Contract Staff. ”

The reason for the termination of employment of the contract staff, however, remains unknown at the time of filing this report.

A source in BCOS who does not want the name in print confirmed the development to this newspaper on Friday afternoon.

The source noted that a lot has been going on internally with regards to their welfare and remuneration, and appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to wade in and address issues surrounding their work status which has remained temporary for over 10 years.

The source added that contract staff have been on temporary employment in the service of BCOS for many years without regularization into permanent employment under past administrations.

Asked if the employment letter issued to the contract staff stipulated expiry date, the source said: “No duration of employment was stated just that they will communicate to us if there would be termination of appointment which I think has not happened in a very long while.

According to the circular, the contract staff whose employment terminates on January 31st, 2024, and still interested in the service of BCOS are expected to re-apply on or before February 7, 2024.

“All contract staff and freelance artistes in the service of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State are hereby, informed that their employment will expire by the 31st of January, 2024.

“All contract staff and freelance Artists who are interested in renewing their appointment should re-apply on or before 7th February 2024.” The Circular reads.
