Oyo Speaker, Ogundoyin Makes Case For Poorest Of The Poor In Federal Government Social Programmes

The Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State legislatures of Nigeria, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, has commended the federal government for its various Intervention programmes towards alleviating poverty.

Honourable Ogundoyin, who is also the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, gave the commendation in Abuja, when he led a delegation of the Conference, on a courtesy visit to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu

Honourable Ogundoyin, however sought collaboration with the ministry to ensure that the intervention programmes get to the intended beneficiaries at the grassroots.

In her remarks, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, urged states to put all federal government’s programmes under the supervision of one agency.

She also called for the domestication of the Disability Act and that of the National Social Investment Program Agency, NSIPA at State levels.

Some federal government’s poverty Alleviation programmes are Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) and the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSF)
