The Oyo State Labour Movement on Friday observed Juma’at Service at the frontage of the State secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
It was gathered that the workers in their hundreds assembled exactly 1.30 for the Juma’at after social discussion and gyration earlier in the morning to make fifth day of grounding the government activities in continuation of its protest.
The Juma’at Service led by one Islamic leader led workers in the two sexes with right thing to do including praying over prayer beads and bodily ablution in reverence to the Almighty God, opened progressive prayers for the growth and development of Oyo State and as well a call to God to arrest their demands from the state governor, Seyi Makinde.
Speaking, Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Oyo State Chapter, Comrade Kayode Martins said the movement is aware of litigation by the government against the Labour movement and would never be moved by such.
Martins noted that assembly of the workers for the Jumaat was to appease God and seek touch of the divine on the state governor in that the Labour movement be attended to in its six cardinal demands including payment of seven months salary deductions
“We are people of peace, from morning it has been peaceful, though we had an experience where we had some people planted to distrupt the whole thing from their own end . we are aware of that whatever litigation they want to take upon us, we are prepared for that as well. It has been peaceful. Whatever disruption we experienced, it came from their own end. We will converge immediately after the Jumaat. The leadership would meet and what we are going to do on Monday, we’ll let the people, the workers, and followers, we’ll let them know”, Martins said
Similarly, the chairman, Nigeria Union Of Teachers,NUT, Oyo State, Raji Oladimeji maintained that the disagreement between the state government and workforce would soon be settled as to oil smoother relationship between the two parties
“First and foremost,I want to believe the state government is not adamant. Though nobody has appeared to us. No representation from government side as long as the struggle continues. But to the best of my knowledge, it has been said that ,His Excellency is away from Oyo State and I want to believe that it’s a family matter and very soon and I want to assure that in the next couple of hours,it’s going to be addressed, let me put it that way”, NUT chairman concluded.
Meanwhile, the Labour Movement unanimously said it would convene for protest, discuss the next point of action before Monday.
