One of the deepest functions of a functional society is postmorteming cause and effect of event, for a durable, or selective solution.

The World shook with fear as the sudden death of a popular Instagram wears Vendor, Late Adeshina Olayinka broke out on Thursday 6th April,2023.

The Instagram clothes and bag vendor, Olayinka fondly called “Khadi” was reported dead at a world class gigantic hotel, Wetland Hotel at Akobo, Ibadan , the capital of Oyo State by a receptionist who checked on her for spending more time against official lodge-in hours, after a male individual whom the deceased announced she wanted to hold a crucial meeting with to friends the night before, left earlier that Thursday, with an assurance , he should be formally permitted to leave the hotel premises.

As a matter of fact, the said receptionist was forced to check on “Khadi” for the return of a power bank borrowed from the late promising online wear jobber. Eventually, the lady was claimed dead! What an unfortunate incident! What killed her? Who knows the death?

Several thoughts come to mind. Why did the late promising lady announce falsely she was at a meeting with an individual earlier night when in a serious sense she was ready for a mutual “get-together”- Lovemaking. The male individual suspect revealed that there was no mutual “get-together” as she complained of body weakness. Is this true?

There are two phenomenons in this incident which I believe have necessitated all forms of social vices in our dear country,Nigeria, which must be soon dealt with as an individual and governmental.
What are these? Poverty and corruption.

The general belief is that poverty and corruption are closely related in developing countries, no wonder Ashcroft, Griffiths and Tiffin(2003) pertinently assert ” all post- colonial societies are still subject in one way or another to overt or subtle forms of neo- colonial domination and independence has not solved this peculiar problem”
Corruption in the public sector is often viewed as factoring condition of poverty in countries already struggling with the strains of economic growth and democratic transition. Similarly, countries experiencing chronic poverty are seen naturally breeding grounds for systemic corruption as a result of social and financial disparities therefore, perverse economic incentive.

In Amma Darko’s Housemaid, Efia while she stayed in the village , a colleague and friend, Akua had proved herself the beauty of Ghana(Accra) at an end of the year carnival, from then, Efia was introduced to Accra, though without a transport fare, she paid herself out through free sex making with the public transporters. What desperacy!

The World Bank Development Report(2000) on attacking poverty summarized current thinking on corruption- poverty link as follows” The burden of petty corruption falls disaproportionately on poor people…For those without money and connections, petty corruption in public health or police services can have debilitating consequences”. World Bank defines poverty as a complex phenomenon: defined in relation to income , often measured in terms of per capital gross domestic product.
In 2001, South African President, Yacoob Zuma maintained that ‘the right of access to adequate housing cannot be seen in isolation, there is a close relationship between it and other socio-economic rights. The state is obliged to take positive actions to meet the needs of those living in extreme conditions of poverty, homelessness, or intolerable, otherwise, Olayinka “Khadi” who must have pretended as a rich lady under a well air-condensed room, whereas might not even have a standing fan, died of coldness, who knows she suffered from pneumonia? Poverty is a disease: a death trap with the fact that it discourages better, or professional competition. Let me allude to Abimbola Adunni Adelakun’s Under the Brown Rusted Roofs, motara, the most senior wife of Alhaji still coveted selling Eko(Solid corn) trade that within the compound of Alabeni despite that Layi’s wife had earlier ventured into same trade. This is poverty! Olayinka Adeshina ” Khadi” could have chosen between real online vendorship and prostitution. After all, this is not the first time news of ritual victims and undue lives claiming of people in connection brothel use, she fell into the death trap. Pakute, again?

USAID (2000) believes that poverty sets in as soon as an individual could not boast of $1(1 dollar) as his daily earning . One can argue that the promising online shop vendor,Olayinka intuitively thought of upping her game, as it has become a tradition that our society celebrates the rich and never talent. A need for our government to switch to action for a positive socio- economic development which will help to re-orientate social value system.

Briefly, before my submission , let me explain corruption categories.
Corruption is an emanation of false social value system growth to a societal delineation. It flows from early to old age, however, we could break this social phenomenon into petty, grand and looting.
Petty corruption involves relatively minor amounts of money or gifts changing hands where one of the parties is themselves a relatively minor official in the organization or system within which the transaction takes place.
Grand corruption most often involves businessman and government officials of senior rank and that the figures involves are significant.
Looting has recently been described by some commentators as large scale economic deliquency.

It differs from petty and grand slightly, but, it sadly prevalent in the developing countries where institutions of governance is weak.

With all said, corruption played out in the death of “Khadi” . A receptionist in a hotel ,Wetland Hotel, Akobo,Ibadan borrowed a power bank: an exchange and transaction for a cover-up Olayinka from friends, family, or clients “customers”.
Summarily, the event really makes me sad each time I remember the beauty in the lost lady, her creativity in a gruesome atmosphere . Why all these? Poor family planning and poor government policies. I urge the Police, much trust to Oyo State Police Command , justice will be labelled, as the man ( evil guest of Khadi) cannot hold a meeting openly but overnight with a mid-20’s promising lady, until…

*Every parent should give a supervisory role over his affordable to rear child and contentment , honesty, perseverance etc.

*All security agencies including the Police, Amotekun,NSCDC, and para-military should up their security intelligence for more outstanding security networking

*More sensitization against social vices by all media agencies, civil organization agencies, religious and traditional bodies and as well National Orientation Agencies(NOA) for a resounding healthy society and,

*Finally, the Police Command of Oyo State led by CP Williams Adebowale should tactically prove, interrogate Wetland Hotels, Akobo,Ibadan receptionist who borrowed a power bank from late Olayinka Adeshina, as it appears a susceptible connection is there between the deceased , patronizer(male suspect) of Khadi, so as to scapegoat her for other evil perpetrating citizens
