Government Should Put Plank Sellers Into Consideration In Nigeria — National Executive President,Lateef Appeals

Nigerian Plank Sellers and Building Materials Market Association,Orisumbare, Bodija Market, Nigeria on Tuesday under its national president, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Adelodun held its maiden formal inauguration.

This came to being after several efforts at formalising the association from 1980’s until today the effort yielded a positive result.

” Plank selling in Nigeria began in 1890, with largely the use of axe, until 1968, a sawing machine was invented”, he informed

Speaking, National President of the Association, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Adelodun stated historically that the association was earlier formed by the Igbajo , indigenes of the now Osun State.

The Okeho- born , plank seller as well the Association’s President maintained that the association is nationally recognized, with its coverage in seven states in the country, some of which are Oyo, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Kwara States.

” We are pretty delighted that today is a reality, especially in respect of our dear association’s national recognition

” Let me reiterate that the Association has 45 Executive members , with its administration by each state’s chairman as to enable a positive leadership and progress of this Association

” I will never fail to call for total support and co-operation of every member which will enhance proactiveness and proper functioning of this Association”.

“It will interest you to know that Ibadan, precisely Bodija, the Orisumbare Market will remain the official headquarters of the Association nationally “president said.

Earlier, State chairman, Ekiti Chapter, Mr Oluwasegun Akinola said the association’s inauguration formed part of efforts of the Association for the sake of formal background against undue charges by the government securities to include the forestry agencies in the state.

Akinola stressed the need to support the National executive council of the association as to ensure efforts at reducing corruption against the association in the country; noted that this could help in getting debts incurment from customers and clients nationwide.

” In Ekiti State this year, federal government gifted our association only 33,000 seasoned planks, looking at this ,it could not be enough for us, let us embrace afforestation”, he added.

The Lagos based planks seller Boss, Alhaji Lateef appealed to the government in the country to fully remain on them in relation to security of members on the federal highways and as well in the forest Reserves.
” We call on the government to beef up security intelligence within our state and in our forests

” We do not want harassment from highway security personnel who unnecessarily disturb and technically after our legal movement on the roads.

” We have registered with the federal Ministry of Environment, with also a national recognition through the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) with our fuller take off from January 17th 2023″, he concluded

The event ended with swearing-in of national executive council of the Association.
