The Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde has expatiated the true meaning of Omituntun 2.0 and however reflected on the business of governance which had happened in the last one week.
This was contained in Makinde’s newsletter issued in respect of explanation to Omituntun 2.0 and business of governance for the last one week.
According to him, “the last two weeks have been packed full of activities for me: I received thousands of defectors from opposition parties; received the Founder and General Overseer of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries Pastor Lazarus Muoka and his entourage; travelled to Spain to watch Real Madrid play; reconstituted and inaugurated the new Oyo State Waste Management Task Force; attended the birthday celebrations of our Royal Father, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Mohood Olalekan Ishola Balogun Alli, Okumade II, Olubadan of Ibadanland, and Chief (Dr) Jacob Olabode Amao, OON, the Asiwaju of Ibadanland who marked their 80th and 90th on the same day; delivered a lecture at the Nigerian Institute of Security Studies; and earlier today, hosted the Chief Emeka Anyaoku Lecture Series. So, you will forgive me for not reading further from my book of the month.
“I should also mention that campaign season has officially kicked off and so we will be talking more about politics this season. As you may already know, our official slogan for the 2023 gubernatorial campaign is Omituntun 2.0. We chose this slogan because it shows in clear terms that we plan to run an issue-based campaign. We are not in competition with anyone but ourselves. We are simply saying our second term is going to be an upgrade of our first term.
“Do you like our campaign slogan? You know you can always reply to this email to let me have your thoughts.
“In the next few weeks, we will be releasing our Roadmap to Sustainable Development in Oyo State 2023-2027. Our plan is to build on the foundation we already laid with the Roadmap to Accelerated Development 2019-2023. As I have mentioned in the past, we will still be running on the four pillars but will expand the economy beyond agribusiness to look at tourism and solid minerals exploitation.
“Of course, exploring our tourism potential means that we have to have a welcoming environment to receive tourists. What this entails is a greater emphasis on road construction and a cleaner environment. This is why going into our second term; we are closely working with the local government authorities to ensure that they can meet their obligations in these areas.
“As you may already know, LGAs cannot function optimally if they do not have the funds to do so. Presently, their FAAC allocations mostly cater to the payment of salaries and leave little room for them to do anything else. So, for LGAs, Omituntun 2.0 means that the state will be contributing more towards the development at the local level.
