Former MD of the defunct Intercontinental Bank, who is also the Chairman of Inspiration FM, Erastus Akingbola has sacked over 85 percent of workforce in Ibadan station of the media outfit.
The news of mass sack at the media house reached newsmen on Tuesday afternoon after which an insider, who pleaded anonymity and confided in penangle.com confirmed the story.
The insider said only two workers were retained in the Programmes Department of the station, which included the Head of the Department, Mrs. Sunmbo Yusuff and one Yorùbá on-air personality, Christopher Adelakun.
She also said only one person remains in the Newsroom as the immediate past Head of News had resigned in August before the mass sack.
She said many of the workers, especially who were poached from other radio stations in January, were shocked to their bone marrow when the Group Human Resources Manager, Mr. Alayo Temitope came all the way from Lagos to distribute the sack letters to them.
The source also said the Administrative Officer of the station, Mrs. Bosede Boboye who many believe always does the dirty work of the management, was not spared in the mass sack.
The list of the sacked staff members include Ibukun-Oluwa Olagunju, Rahmat Kajola, Tope Oduola, Toke Adeleye, Adekunle Yusuff and Oluwaseun Adedimeji.
Others are Oluwafunmilayo Ogedengbe, Peter Ene, Taiwo Alade, Marian Delekpe and two marketers among others.
According the source, the two engineers were spared while the station also retained the only Traffic Officer. She said the visibly enraged workers might resort to legal action as they were still being owed December 2021 salary as at time they were shown the way out of the system.
She also said some former staff members of the station are on the verge of taking the management to court over unremitted pensions if all avenues to resolve the matter amicably prove abortive.
The source added that many of the former staff members were also owed months of salary arrears, stressing that the company is notorious for deducting pension from worker salaries without remitting it to workers pensions account.
She revealed to penangle.com that the former staff had come together to ask for their entitlement, vowing to involve Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Pensions Commission (PenCom) and other relevant agencies to get their entitlement.
