The Vice Chancellor, Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State, Professor Amidu Olalekan Sanni has said, despite that the academic institution is an Islam based one, established and owned by Nasrul-Lahi-LiFatih Society of Nigeria(NASFAT), religious tolerance with neither discrimination nor intimidation is however allowed.
Sanni disclosed this in his office, during an interactive engagement with members of Southwest Group of Online Publishers(SWEGOP).
VC stressed that, despite it is a privately owned Islamic faith-based university in Osun State, room is given for religious tolerance across levels.
He disclosed that, DEAN of Post Graduate School, Works Department, and Technical Department among others are Christians.
Maintaining that there are many Christian students in the university who are allowed to go churches and go for church services of their choice with neither intimidation nor oppression.
Sanni however disclosed that, students are living regimented life in the university, as some parents want religiously inclined institution and also want the value system to be preserved, maintaining that they are not strict with the students but their movements are being monitored.
Prof Sanni who came onboard over 4 years ago after complete 34 years at Lagos State University as a lecturer, said he met 2 colleges of Management, Sciences, Natural & Applied Sciences with 12 courses in places.
While thanking God, he said he was grateful to God Almighty that things have become stabilised in institution beyond his expectation, while academic activities are being run without without delay nor hitches.
Maintaining that, the institution is doing its best possible to ensure that the members of staff are satisfied on areas of entitled payments and other due gratifications in order not to give room for staff strike.
He added that, being an Islam based university that cares for religious inclination of the students and other internal public, stressing that these idea and consistent efforts on religion do not give room for cultism to find its way in the institution.
Sanni who was once a TV Producer revealed that an existence of Fountain University is premised on eagerness and curiosity to develop skills outside student’s area of study.
Adding that identification of student’s potentials would help the institution to build and groom them beyond their areas of studies, as both skills and acquired knowledge would help students to meet fortunes while getting to labour market.
Sanni assured that sound education is given at Fountain University sequel to availability of professional and qualified lecturers, serene environment, access to stable ICT and other prerequisites that guarantee access to qualitative education.
