Stop Threatening Journalists While On Duty — OkeOgun NUJ Warns Politicians

Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), OkeOgun Federated Chapel, Oyo State has warned politicians to desist from threatening journalists while discharging their professional tasks and however called attention of press men to ethical and legal limitations of journalism.

This advice was contained in a communique issued by Comrade Tunde Olabode(Chairman), Comrade Khalid Imran(Secretary) and Alh. Wale Ahmed at the end of the NUJ, OkeOgun Federated Chapel’s Congress, held on Friday, January 21st, 2022 at Saki, NTA Arena, Oyo State.

The issued communique goes thus:

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF NUJ, OKEOGUN FEDERATED CHAPEL’S CONGRESS, HELD ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 21st, 2022 AT SAKI, NTA ARENA, SAKIWEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT, OYO STATE

Having peacefully and fruitfully deliberated on issues which were in connection with the development and progress of the chapel, the following resolutions were unanimously met:

That President Muhammadu Buhari should beef up security across the country, borders and was however commended for declaring bandits, kidnappers and other crime agents as Terrorists.

That Governor Seyi Makinde should continue to ensure that monumental projects are are spread across the state, and urgently expedite an action on insecurity in order to make the pacesetter state more secured.

That the congress hailed the Traditional Rulers in OkeOgun axis for their relentless efforts to sustain peace, urging them to maintain the statusquo on their display of ingenuity and wisdom towards the stabilisation of peace and togetherness.

That the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria(IPMAN), Saki axis should rescind decision of hoarding fuel, which if not, may orchestrate self inflected sufferings on the masses and most especially the fuel users.

That the politicians should henceforth stop threatening Journalists while discharging their professional tasks, likewise, press men should adhere strictly to ethical and legal limitations of journalism.

That the social media warriors should learn better the rules of engagement, and outrightly refrain from posts which are capable of aggravating tension as electioneering period draws nearer.

That the State Council of NUJ should expedite an action that would accelerate the swearing in and inauguration of Comrade Moshood Adebisi as Vice Chairman.

That the members should do all best of theirs to ensure the secretariat completes before the tenure’s expiration of the current executives.

That the congress lavished encomiums on Ademola Babalola led administration and equally urged him to proceed on fixing more monumental projects.

That the congress hailed Prince Semiu Azeez led administration in the axis, and enjoined him not to relax until the chapel attains enviable heights.
